TRC Launches Executive Director Search
The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring that the Association serves the needs and interests of the Thermostat Recycling Corporation’s (TRC) membership pursuant to the organization’s mission, bylaws, and as directed by the Board of Directors (Board), which is the primary policy-setting body of the Association.
The Executive Director ensures that the programs, activities, and services of the Association benefits the members, the HVAC industry, and fulfills TRC’s mission. To this end, the Executive Director is responsible for developing and managing a mercury-added thermostat recycle program in North America.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Be able to perform the essential functions of the position.
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, advertising or related field.
10 years management and/or association experience. Master’s in Business Administration preferred.
Experience with business trade press and government communications preferred.
Ability to use basic office machinery such as telephones, copiers, fax, and computers.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking capability.
Be able to travel up to 10% overnight via airplane within North America.
Strong interpersonal skills to include the ability to work in fast paced, small office environment.
Close proximity to Philadelphia, PA; Fort Washington office preferred but not required.
GENERAL ESSENTIAL DUTIES (include but are not limited to):
Assures that Association has proper governing and legal documents.
Responsible for association operating in compliance with applicable laws and regulations (State and Federal laws, Articles and bylaws, etc.).
Follows best practices in leading TRC to create a Strategic Plan and update it regularly (every 3 years at a minimum).
Oversee implementation of the Strategic Plan.
Lead Board to maintain a strategic focus and effectively steer Board away from time and attention on tactical or operational issues.
Risk Management and Insurance Coverage
Ensures that assigned organization has appropriate coverage for all programs and performs a regular review (every year) to confirm that it is maintained.
Governance and Leadership Development
Effectively lead Board and Committee structures that align with the organization’s strategic plan.
Oversee creation and consistent delivery of Board orientations.
Execute and maintain required volunteer governance forms (anti-trust, confidentiality, conflict of interest, whistle-blower, etc.).
Develop, present and manage the organization within an annual budget.
Oversee effective financial reporting to the Board and relevant committees, proactively alert Board to any significant variances.
Create and maintain an investment policy statement and all related reporting.
Oversee an annual audit by an outside accounting firm.
Maintain an understanding of all market segments and stakeholders.
Lead conversations with Volunteer leaders to document membership trends and perform necessary analysis.
Create and maintain relevant privacy policies.
Perform timely annual performance reviews, conduct an annual review of each team member’s job description.
Maintain an organizational chart.
Support professional development of each team member, identify relevant training programs or specialized skill development programs.
Image, Brand Management
Create and maintain documented policies related to use of logo.
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES
The Executive Director assists the Board in fulfilling its responsibility to set policy for the Association and to carry on its business by managing and being responsible for:
The articulation of a shared vision for the Association and its mission.
The setting of annual and long-range goals, objectives by which progress toward these goals will be measured; and the annual budgets and forecasts of the necessary resources.
The fulfillment and compliance with all applicable laws and legal requirements.
Ensuring the Board is kept informed of matters that warrant their attention.
Serving as the main point of contact between staff and the Board.
Ensuring the Board has the assistance they need to fulfill their individual responsibilities under the bylaws.
Assists the Chair as the Chair serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Association.
Assists the Chair in fulfillment of responsibilities as the chief executive.
Prepare agendas and reports of meetings of the Board and membership.
Serve as the association’s state and federal representative.
Serves as the association’s chief spokesperson to legislative and regulatory branches of government.
Responsible for implementing thermostat collection program where mandated by law and in compliance with law.
Responsible for assisting the Board in achieving the associations legislative and regulatory objectives.
The provision of information and recommendations for setting public policy positions.
The maintenance of records of policy positions, and the evaluation and reconsideration of positions taken.

Member relationship management
Program management: including program promotion, coordination with contractors
Regulatory compliance: including developing and filing state mandatory reports
Develop and finalize annual budget
Annual member invoicing
Preparation and filing of state reports (annual, quarterly, or bi-annual)
Attend industry events/trade shows
