It’s New Year’s Resolution Time And …‎

Posted January 26, 2022

As you know, bettering your health is a popular resolution, and after thinking it through, I decided we can fit TRC into your New Year’s resolution too. Living sustainably has become a trend in recent years, even for those who didn’t understand what that meant five or 10 years ago. Well … my easy addition to those with a sustainable resolution is to update that thermostat if you haven’t recently. If you have an older model, chances are you could be using a more sustainable and efficient product. If it is a mercury thermostat that needs to be replaced, even better, we can certainly help you out there!

On the other hand, if you are already a participant in the program, then you’ve got a head start. The day-to-day reality is that we hope and urge contractors, wholesalers, our partners, indeed everyone involved in the supply chain of recycling these thermostats to continue the fine work you do. While TRC can modestly boast of our results during the decades, the reality is that there is no success without the support and contributions by the bucketful that we continue to receive. Put even more bluntly, without your participation, there is no recycling and no TRC. We are truly grateful.

However, your actions have a more significant impact than scoring points with TRC or contributing to your collection tally. I don’t believe it’s an exaggeration to say your actions have protected people from the possible ill effects of mercury. All of you are doing a good deed for the environment —even if you don’t witness the impact directly. Please add a continued effort as a New Year’s resolution.

The environment is safer, and the reality of mercury contamination is a touch less likely because of you.

As January 2022 closes down, thanks for your continued commitment. And we hope you’ll continue a New Year’s resolution of committing to the collection process that is our contribution to the cleaner and safer environment we all crave.

The punctuation point for this New Year’s resolution is a worthy quote that fits us today and tomorrow, too.

To halt the decline of an ecosystem, it is necessary to think like an ecosystem.
Douglas P. Wheeler, EPA Journal, September-October 1990
