Thermostat Recycling Corporation (TRC) works closely with California’s Department of Toxic Substance Control (DTSC) to ensure that mercury containing thermostats are collected and disposed of properly and safely.
TRC provides detailed annual reports to DTSC describing our efforts and detailing the progress we are making in collections.
Collecting mercury containing thermostats is essential. Mercury is a heavy metal that can cause harm to humans, wildlife and the environment. TRC started in 1998 as a voluntary takeback agency funded by the HVAC industry. Since our inception, we have collected over 2.4 million thermostats that contain mercury.
