Warren Johnson was a visionary.  Long before the environmental movement got started, and at the earliest edges of the natural conservation movement of the 19th century, Johnson had a vision of harnessing and conserving precious energy resources.  In 1835, Johnson launched his company focused on customer-focused innovation.

Warren Johnson was first to receive a patent for a device that helps control a room temperature: The thermostat.
